Juiz de Fora, Brazil

The first LDS missionaries in Brazil arrived in 1928, following a movement of Latter Day Saints from Germany. Elder James E. Faust (former 2nd Counselor of the 1st Presidency) is amongst the early missionaries who served in Brazil in 1938.

The first southern American Stake was organized in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1966 by Prophet Spencer W. Kimball; and the first Brazilian Temple was completed in 1978 also in the state of Sao Paulo, and dedicated by the same Prophet. 26 years later, the Temple was rededicated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.

Juiz de Fora is a city in Brazil located in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais. It is the main route from Rio De Janeiro to Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. Its current population estimates about 550,710 people.

Juiz de Fora Stake was organized in 1996, and today counts with 6 Wards. Its assigned Temple is the Campinas Brazil Temple.

The Juiz de Fora Mission was organized on July 1st, 2013.
